Coastal loop ride
by Dave on Oct.15, 2011, under Biking
Today has been lovely weather wise and after a slow start, and having no Vicki around this weekend, I fancied getting out on my bike. Instead of heading to Llandegla or some other failsafe I decided to explore the local area for once. What followed wasn’t technically difficult, there was no need to attack berms hard or loft the bike over stones. Nor where there any calf burning granny ring climbs. In fact most of it was on tarmacced cycle routes or unsealed roads, but it was brilliant. I set off with no real plan, and decided which way to turn on a whim, and it led me places I never expected. I ended up going to St Asaph, Rhuddlan, Rhyl, Prestatyn, Meliden, Dyserth, and then back to Rhuddlan and home. I’ve seen wildlife, castles, rivers, waterfalls, the beach, the sea, flocks of seagulls picking over a field being plowed, old railway cranes, bridges and glorious views of the mountains in the distance. It reminded me of being a kid again when I’d ride out of my front dorr and just go, and it has been seriously therapuetic. All I need now is some therapy for my backside which kills!.
Jervaulx Abbey, Aysgarth Falls and Black Sheep
by Dave on Oct.05, 2011, under Holiday, Models, Places
Jervaulx Abbey is a Cisterican monastery that was destroyed in the 16th century. Located between Masham and Leyburn the ruins provide a good coupleof hours exploration. The tea-room also has a reconstruction of the Abbey using Linka, which is featured on the linka-world website here: Jervaulx Abbey in Linka. Apparently it took him 5 years and with my linka experience I reckon 8-12 months of that was simply casting the pieces!
We also popped to Bolton castle, then up toAysgarth falls, Hawes then back to Masham for a tour around The Black Sheep brewery. After that it would be rude not to have a few pints of Black Sheep in the Bay Horse with Dan and Aimee, somewhere I’d highly recommend for food and brilliant atmosphere.
Leeds Armoury

I’ve taken some of my pending lieu time in a short lull of work and with Vicki being off we decided to go away fro a few days. On the way to Masham we’ve just been to Leeds Royal Armoury. It’s quite interesting seeing all the ways mankind has produced to annihilate itself but I’ve not taken any photos, the ones on the website are better anyway. It’s a pretty interesting place to spend a few hours educating onself, but you have to be selective; if you read all the placards we’d still be there on saturday!
15T crane
by Dave on Jul.17, 2011, under Models
I finally finished the Dapol crane but to be frank it’s a bit of a nightmare since a lot of the parts are warped leading to some quite big gaps. Anyway it’s done now and will be ok for the odd use. I’ve also acquired a mk1 restaurant car and a Mallar.
Scotland 24-29/06/11
by Dave on Jun.29, 2011, under Holiday, Places
After pimping out the van I drove all of us up to Lower Largo on the coast north of Edinburgh. It was a beautiful peaceful little fishing village, being famous for housing the real life Robinson Crusoe (Alexander Selkirk). We took a few trips out to see Andy’s relatives and to see St Andrews, Edinburgh, Falkirk palace and Kilgour Crags. Being a Grant on my mothers side and a Stewart on my fathers side Vicki thinks I resemble Charles I, with the monobrow and dark brooding eyes. Well that’s me told then! It made a change for me to see some of Scotland that wasn’t covered in snow for once.
